Each ceramic DenzHerz is handcrafted from the finest Limoges porcelain.
From the plaster mold to the finished DenzHerz: The Manufactory
The entire manufacturing process takes place in the studio of artist Margit Denz in Dornbirn, Austria: in precise handwork and combines craftsmanship, design experience and technical skills.
The first steps begin with a drawing, based on an idea that has been developed over time or captured spontaneously. The model is then constructed and transferred into a plaster mold – consisting of up to eight molded parts. This mold allows for the precise pouring of the liquid porcelain. The work is carried out with high-quality raw materials and the utmost care; each casting is controlled, and each drying process is precisely coordinated.
After demolding, the blanks are smoothed, reworked, and prepared. In several controlled firing processes – at temperatures up to 1,250 °C – the porcelain is densified and achieves its final strength. Depending on the design, glazes or color pigments are applied by hand, using a brush, sponge, or spray technique. Here, too, each piece requires utmost attention, as the reaction of color and glaze in the kiln is never entirely predictable.
Sustainability is thoughtfully integrated into daily work without compromising on quality.
The classic heart shape measuring approximately 11 x 12 x 4 cm remains consistent across the series. Subtle color nuances, slight traces of hand finishing, or delicate variations in gloss arise from heat distribution and placement in the kiln—making each heart a unique original.
On the back of every DenzHeart is the casting opening, discreetly integrated to allow elegant wall mounting. The best way to hang it is with a nail, hook, or small screw. For arrangements, we recommend a spacing of about 15 to 20 cm between the hangers, so multiple hearts can be displayed beautifully together.
The authenticity of each DenzHeart is certified by an embossed stamp on the back.
The kilns and machines used are powered by solar energy.
The team behind DenzHerz
Behind every DenzHerz is not only the artistic work of Margit Denz – but also a family-like team that thinks along, supports and helps shape the project.
Her husband, Christoph, handles all organizational and administrative processes. From order processing to shipping and accounting, the operational backbone of the factory lies in his hands – structured, reliable, and with an eye for detail.
The twins Clea-Luzia and Pia-Sophie share the responsibilities between external communications and internal production. Social media, website, and editorial content – Clea-Luzia gives DenzHerz a voice and a face, connecting DenzHerz with the world. Meanwhile, Pia-Sophie diligently supports DenzHerz in production.
The team is rounded out by three charming cats, whose constant presence contributes to the daily atmosphere in the studio.
